Naar aanleiding van het overlijden van 39 personen in een vrachtwagen te Purfleet, Groot-Brittannië, heeft het federaal parket een dossier opgestart. Het onderzoek zal zich toespitsen naar de organisatoren van en alle andere betrokkenen bij dit transport. Hiertoe zal nauw samen gewerkt worden met de Britse politiediensten en gerechtelijke autoriteiten.
Uit de voorlopige resultaten van het onderzoek blijkt dat de container in kwestie te Zeebrugge toekwam op 22 oktober om 14h49 en dezelfde dag de haven verliet in de loop van de namiddag om in Purfleet toe te komen op 23 oktober om 01h00.
Het is voorlopig nog niet duidelijk wanneer de slachtoffers in de container werden geplaatst en of dat in België gebeurde.
In het belang van het onderzoek wordt er geen verdere informatie vrij gegeven.

L’enquête se concentrera sur les organisateurs et toutes les autres personnes impliquées dans ce transport. Cela se fera en étroite collaboration avec les services de police et les autorités judiciaires britanniques.
Les résultats provisoires de l’enquête révèlent que le conteneur en question est arrivé à Zeebruges le 22 octobre à 14h49 et a quitté le port le même jour dans le courant de l’après-midi pour arriver à Purfleet le 23 octobre à 1h00.
Pour le moment, on ne sait pas encore quand les victimes ont été placées dans le conteneur et si cela s’est produit en Belgique.
Dans l’intérêt de l’enquête, aucune information supplémentaire ne sera divulguée.

The Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case following the death of 39 people in a lorry in Purfleet, Great Britain. The investigation will focus on the organisers of and all other parties involved in this transport. This investigation will be carried out in close cooperation with the British police and judicial authorities.
The preliminary results of the investigation show that the container in question arrived at Zeebrugge on 22 October at 02.49 p.m. and left the port the same day during the afternoon to arrive in Purfleet on 23 October at 01.00 a.m.
It is not yet clear when the victims were placed in the container and whether this happened in Belgium.
In the interest of the investigation, no further information will be released.
